Dance Pathway

The Dance Pathway offers focused experience in the art form of expressive movement. Students will explore the fundamentals of dance, including different styles and forms such as modern, tap, hip hop, Dance Hall, jazz, ballet, contemporary and lyrical. Students will be encouraged to create, develop and learn choreographed pieces, participate in multiple public performances, and set personal goals to develop their skills. Through these areas of study in the Dance Pathway, students will emerge as confident, expressive performers with enhanced skills in goal setting, collaboration and expressing their creativity.

AVPA Endorsement Requirements

Students are eligible to receive the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts endorsement from Essex High School after meeting the following requirements:

  • earn at least 3.0 credits of visual and performing arts courses
  • enrollment in AVPA advisory
  • successful completion of the AVPA Internship Course, usually during junior year
  • successful completion of the AVPA Capstone Project during senior year
  • receive 30 points in Experiential Learning Opportunity credits (ELO’s) such as field trips and masterclasses
    • AVPA Field Trip – 3 points
    • Guest Artist Workshop – 4 points
    • Pre-approved Experiential Learning Opportunity
