Offers focused experience in the art form of expressive movement. Students will explore the fundamentals of dance, including different styles and forms such as modern, tap, hip hop, Dance Hall, jazz, ballet, contemporary and lyrical.
Students are exposed to a variety of techniques, ideas and materials to foster and expand their visual literacy. All classes supplement studio practice with art history, cultural conventions, and various styles.
Theater Pathway helps aspiring actors and directors emerge as confident and expressive performers by expanding their creativity, public speaking and performance skills, and their collaborative skills.
Explore the world of film production, cinematography and still photography through courses, hands-on projects using state of the art equipment, and working with guest artists.
The music pathway provides experience in creating, performing, analyzing and responding to music. Students develop musical skills through the study of music history, composition, and music theory.

Essex High School Arts Trip to New York City in April 2016
As part of our desire to continue to expand the spectrum of arts appreciation and
development, we have decided to conduct a trip to New York City. This opportunity is being
offered to upper level performing and visual arts students.
At the final coffee house of the school year at Essex High School, donations will be accepted for Nepal. The coffee house, set forMay 29 at 7 p.m., is open to any performing arts' student and is held in the cafeteria. Refreshments will be available. Donations will be accepted at the door and sent to UNICEF. Come on out and support the performers as well as the Nepal fundraiser.
All AVPA students need to go directly to the Auditorium for Advisory on Wednesday May 6th. Attendance will be taken there. We will be having a guest award-winning percussionist Jane Boxall present on that day.
It's that time of year again, the annual Essex Jazz Festival! This event features all the jazz musicians from ADL, EMS and EHS. The Essex Jazz Orchestra will also feature tenor saxophonist and composer, Dr. Joel Vanderheyden from St. Louis.
All AVPA students need to go directly to the Black Box Theater for Advisory on Wednesday (4/29). Attendance will be taken there. Guest Artist Lukas Huffman will be with us at that time.
U#46 School Board Budget Work Session @ 06:00PM
The U#46 School Board will take part in a budget work session in the EHS Library. The public is welcome to attend.
AVPA invites prominent artists to teach Masterclass Workshops. Working closely with these artists and through exposure to their opinions, motivations and working methods, students to gain insight into how artists approach the making of art and respond to the work of others. Get In Touch
